Is Cause For Good Or Evil?
America is a country
which supports the underdog, and this is good. What is troublesome is that we
don’t seem to be clarifying whether his cause is good or evil. It is
interesting to note the adjectives used by those supporting this recent cause:
enlightened, educated, intellectual, 20th century, etc. These words describe
the writer, our community and the writer’s cause. All who disagree are
uneducated, unenlightened, etc. The word Christian is added, so any stand
against the cause makes one unchristian.
The Christian Bible
speaks on the issue of homosexuality. (Romans 1:27) “The men likewise gave up
natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another,
committing shameful acts with men, receiving in their own persons the due penalty
for their errors.” I Cor. 1:9-10 states “Do not be deceived, neither the immoral
nor idolators nor adulterers nor homosexuals
will inherit the kingdom of God.” However, Christianity teaches sin can
be forgiven, and that power is given to overcome it. The next verse, 11, says, “And
such were (past) some of you, but you were washed, you were sanctified, you
were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ…”
Healing can come only
to those who know they are sick and want to be well. HOPS wants to convince us
that homosexuality is neither sick or abnormal. If the member really believes
this, he’ll not seek healing, and will have no moral reason not to encourage
others (perhaps school children), to join him in this “wholesome” activity.
When my five-year-old
son and his friend were approached by a “big boy” and told to perform a
homosexual act practically in their back yard, I was concerned. When the PTA was
informed by the police that calls concerning sexual approaches have increased
400 per cent in a two year period (1969-71) I was alarmed. When I am told to
accept this behavior as normal, I am terrified!
Love compels me to
accept the homosexual as a person, to want to see him employed and helped. It
does not compel me to sacrifice my children to him on a day-to-day basis in a
classroom. A teacher teaches much more by what he is than what he says
concerning subject matter.
